Music Ministry

A Lutheran Perspective on Music Ministry
In and through music we recognize and respond to our creator.  Martin Luther declared music a gift of God: “From the beginning of the world it has been instilled and implanted in all creation, individually and collectively.  For nothing is without sound and harmony…. Let this noble, wholesome, and cheerful creation of God be commended to you…by this creation accustom yourself to recognize and praise the creation.”  From Principles for Worship, ELCA published by Augsburg Fortress Publications 2002

Senior Choir: Adults, High School and Beyond
Choral music holds a central place within Lutheran worship practices. The Senior Choir is committed to leading the congregation in corporate worship through liturgy, hymnody and the preparation of weekly anthems that witness to Christ’s love and the gospel message and centers our faith community. A wide variety of musical styles and periods make up the repertoire for this group during the program year. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 in the Sanctuary.

Apostle Choir and Ringers: Children in Grades 3-6
The Apostle Choir participates in worship several times per month. They have a tradition of sharing Christ’s love in the community by caroling at various locations. Following a light snack at 3:45 p.m., the choir rehearses from 4:00-4:40 on Wednesdays. The Apostle Ringers are a beginning hand chime and handbell group. They learn ringing techniques as well as note and rhythm reading. They rehearse from 4:40-5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Confirmation Choir: Youth Enrolled in Confirmation in Grades 7-9
The Confirmation Choir participates in worship several times throughout the confirmation year and serves as the primary musical leaders during the mid-week Lenten services. The group may rehearse either one-half hour immediately before or after confirmation classes.

Youth Ringers: Grades 7-12
The Youth Ringers are an intermediate to advanced handbell choir. They enjoy learning challenging repertoire and hymn and anthem arrangements, occasionally accompanying the Confirmation Choir. They rehearse Sundays from 10:45-11:45 a.m.

First Lutheran Church Jubilation Ringers

Jubilation Ringers: Adults
The Jubilation Ringers rehearse on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45 p.m. during the program year. The choir participates in worship about twice a month playing anthems, and occasionally accompanying hymns or choir pieces.

Worship Team
The Worship Team rehearses weekly at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary to prepare to lead worship at 11:00 a.m. Made up of singers and instrumentalists, they enjoy a wide variety of styles, including contemporary and global music.

Instrumental Music
Instrumental groups are periodically put together to enhance our worship on Sunday mornings as well as during Advent and Lenten Vespers. All ages are welcome, generally from middle-school through adult. Let us know what instrument you play!
