Welcome to First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW)

Purpose Statement
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, We commit  ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.

All women who are members of First Lutheran Church are members of First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW). Some members have not explored or experienced the blessings of fellowship in the group or its small groups. We invite and welcome your participation.

PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES:
CIRCLES – small group Bible study opportunities that meet monthly.   The Bible study is published in Lutheran Women Today magazine (the First Lutheran library has a copy). A blue directory has a list of the circles listing meeting times and places. The Builder has a monthly update. Which meeting time fits your schedule? If none, consider asking a few friends to join you to start a new circle!  Questions?  Contact Beth Holst

3rd Wednesday Esther Circle, Lakeshore Lutheran 12:30 lunch followed by Bible study
3rd Thursday, September-March, Naomi Circle, 1:30 p.m. At homes or Upper Commons
Luncheon Meetings on the 1st Thursdays of February, May, September, and December. FLCW gathers for fellowship at 11:30 a.m. lunch at 12:00. There is a program of interest to women. You are invited!

SPRING AND FALL GATHERINGS scheduled at various ELCA churches in the Lake Superior conference. This is a chance to meet area women and gain from inspiring programs.

ANNUAL CONVENTION- at UMD in June.  All ELCA churches from the 5 conferences in the NE/MN synod are invited to send delegates. Inspiring workshops are scheduled. Come to a part or the whole convention.

QUILTING- No experience needed! Quilters meet the 4th Thursday of the month in the Parish Hall, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come to observe if you aren’t sure you want to try this. Most of the quilts are distributed through Lutheran World Relief to the needy around the world.

ALTAR GUILD prepares communion  for Sunday services each week.  Members sign up as available.

THE SCANDINAVIAN FALL FESTIVAL- A great First Lutheran tradition. This is the major fund-raising event for the FLCW. Baked goods, crafts, food, Scandinavian costumes and demonstrations add to the day. This is a good opportunity to meet others and get involved.

LUTEFISK DINNER- First Wednesday in December. All helpers welcome!

SOUP KITCHEN- First Wednesday of each month at Domiano Center 8:30AM-1:00PM  Preparing and serving lunch to the guests.

FUNERAL MINISTRY- in the kitchen, as needed, a team of women who are available to serve food to the family and friends.  Give your name and available times so you can be called and asked.

BOOK GROUP- Tuesdays 11:45-1:00PM in the Upper Commons.  Faith based books selected by members.
