Stewardship

Stewardship is a way of life believing that everything comes from God and it is our calling to care for it on behalf of our wondrous Creator.

Care of Relationships

Journeying through Grief
The death of a loved one is one of the greatest losses one can experience, and the grieving process may be lonely and isolating journey.  Grief affects one emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and can feel overwhelming.  While there aren’t magic words to remove the pain, it can be helpful to simply know that that the unexpected ways that grief impacts us are natural and normal, and shared by others.

To help walk with those in our community who are experiencing this loss, the FLC Caring Ministry team has purchased sets of four short books to give grieving people during the first year following the loss of their loved one.  Called Journey through Grief, each of the four books focuses on the feeling and issues a person is likely to be experiencing at certain points in the grief journey.

If you or someone you know is suffering from loss, and seeking words of comfort, support, and hope, please contact Ann at the church office.  If you feel called to participate in caring ministry by connecting with those isolated by grief, or homebound due to age, your gifts are needed. And if you would wish to donate financially to support the purchase of these resources, that too would be most appreciated.

Sending of Communion – Caring Ministers bring communion to our homebound members each month.  A small communion kit with wine and wafers is blessed and presented to the communion visitors at worship on the first Sunday of each month. We remember as God sent the angel to feed Elijah with heavenly bread that you send us forth to feed your people.

College Care Packages – Twice a year we send out gift boxes to our college students reminding them that they are not forgotten by their community of faith.

Care of Creation

Our creation care team has a table every third Sunday of the month to educate and inform and encourage us to take steps to become more sustainable stewards of the Earth.  Creation Care Tips [Green Tips] are also published each month.  In the summer months we participate in the global faith community’s Season of Creation – a 6-week liturgical season honoring the earth and reminding ourselves:
“from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven.  Colossians 1:23

Caring for Our History

First Lutheran is known for having one of the most thorough and cared for archives.  Remembering our history helps us know where we come from and helps us to know where

God might be leading us.  Moving into the future we are looking for those who can digitalize our materials.  Want to help?

Everyone is welcome to come sit among the signs of peace written in 4 different languages to pray for peace in our world.
For more on the origins of our peace garden.

Gardeners

A group of gardeners have kept our grounds looking beautiful for years.  As that generation retires we look for new people and new ideas to beautify in simple ways our surroundings for passersby and as part of our stewardship of the earth.

We are in the process of making a natural pollinator garden and a monarch way station along with turning some of our land into a community garden.  We have been welcomed as a community space and have applied for a grant to help with the building materials.

Caring for Our Gifts of the Spirit

Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. I Peter 4:10

We are the church wherever we are, whatever we do, whatever we say.  Church work is not limited to what happens inside the walls of the building, but how we serve with the gifts with which God has blessed us because the Spirit-infused people of God are the church.  How has God blessed you to serve?
