What does this mean? In learning from the witness of Jesus and with the guidance of the Spirit, our worshipping community made the decision to actively welcome those who identify as (LGBTQ+) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer. In 2023, with the guidance of our Welcoming and Affirming Team, First Lutheran went through the process of joining over 1,000 other Lutheran congregations in becoming RIC. RIC status is granted by ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation. Since 1974, ReconcilingWorks has advocated for the full welcome, inclusion, and equity of LGBTQIA+ Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their congregation and community.
