8:30 & 11:00 a.m. with Holy Communion offered each Sunday
The 8:30 a.m. worship service is broadcast via live radio on KDAL AM 610. Please join us for coffee and refreshments in the Gathering Space between services.
Note: In July and August, the 10:00 service will be held in Leif Erikson Park, across London Road from the lower side of the church. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Some chairs are available in the park. On Labor Day weekend, Sunday worship is held at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Prayers for Healing are offered the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month immediately following the first worship service. All are welcome to come to the altar to receive prayer for yourself or others.
Worshiping at First Lutheran
At First Lutheran Church we come together in worship to experience God’s grace through Word, sacrament and music. A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), our worship is liturgical, musical, and welcoming, inviting participation and offering space for renewal for God’s work.
Our services are liturgical, using time-honored patterns for worship. Following the same overall pattern weekly, the liturgy differs in its details from week to week and from season to season. The services are grounded in scripture—sermons are drawn from Biblical readings appointed for the day and make God’s Word relevant to today’s world. Holy Communion is celebrated weekly, offering an opportunity to experience God’s grace by sharing bread, wine, or grape juice. All are welcome at the communion table. Our services are infused with prayer, through which we praise God, confess our sins, thank God, and ask for help for ourselves, others, and for the work of the Church.
Our services feature high-quality music with congregational singing accompanied by organ, piano, and other instruments. Our services engage the talents of members in our choirs, hand-bell ensembles, and as vocal soloists and instrumentalists. Musical offerings enhance the message for the day and feature a wide range of musical styles. Our two Sunday services follow the same pattern, but with a different flavor. At our 8:30 AM service we typically feature organ and choral music; at our 11:00 AM (10:00 AM in summer) service we often feature praise music with a vocal and instrumental combo.
All are welcome at First Lutheran Church. Although our services are structured around a formal liturgy, worshipers dress in a range of styles from jeans and tee-shirts to sport coats and skirts. Families with children will find a children’s sermon, activity packs, and a nursery. Our services feature roles for adults and youth, including scripture reading, assisting with communion, and serving as musicians.
