Confirmation

Young Choir Members Singing

First Lutheran’s Confirmation program prepares children and youth to take on the responsibility for growing in their faith and celebrates this during a public affirmation of baptism on Confirmation Sunday.  It is about fulfilling the promises that a baptized child’s parent and Godparents made for them when they agreed to “Faithfully bring their child to the services of God’s House, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten commandments as they grow in years, they should place in their child’s hands the holy scriptures, and provide for their instruction in Christian faith.”

Confirmation is a commitment that parents and church make in partnership that our children will be raised to grow in Christian faithfulness.  Confirmation at First Lutheran spans from 3rd grade through 10th with catechism & Lutheran theology, bible basics, service, faith practices, fellowship and worship.

Confirmation is a voluntary program and is available for those who wish to learn more about their faith and their church. The Rite of Confirmation is not a sacrament in the Lutheran tradition. It is a public affirmation of our baptism.  During confirmation, we learn about Holy Scripture, the Creeds, Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer. Most importantly, we learn about the love and grace of God whose commitment to us is so strong that He chose to die for each one of us.  Today, we are challenged with the question, “What does this mean?” and our response is in the faithfulness with which we live our lives?

Confirmation for 3rd- 10th graders runs from September through May with grades participating at different scheduled times.    Contact the church for more information or review Confirmation Schedule Schedule : Confirmation Schedule for 2011-2012
