Be Still and Know...

Since I first came to Duluth in elementary school, I have had a love of Lake Superior. There is just something special about the natural beauty of the Northshore. Something magical, something calming, something breath taking.

In the last few weeks that I have gotten to call Duluth home, I have found myself at times just stopping to enjoy the view of the Lake. Just taking a few moments to just pause and say wow. I think one of the most breath-taking views has been coming home from running errands while driving down Observation Road. You get to a point where you start to go down hill and you can see all of the harbor and park point; it just makes you feel like you are on top of the world. It causes you to take pause.

Psalm 46:10 it says, “Be still and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in all the earth.” I cannot help but to think of this Psalm when thinking about and looking at Lake Superior. The beauty and grandeur of Lake Superior causes me pause. It often causes me to stop for a second to be still and admire God’s creation.

As we celebrate Lake Superior this Sunday, I invite you to take some time to slow down and look at the lake. To be still with the amazing natural glory of God’s creation, that we are blessed with, and to see the beauty, majesty, and greatness of God through Lake Superior.

Prayer:

Let us pray…

God, we give you thanks for allowing us to live in such a naturally beautiful place. A place where creation sings of your glory and where we can be still, in awe of your majesty that we see through your creation. Help us to be still, help us to see your greatness and glory through the nature that surrounds us, drawing us closer to you. Amen.
