Troll Rocks
Lise Lunge-Larson

I was contemplating my troll rock as I listened to Pastor Dianne’s sermon [on living stones]! Trolls turn to stone when the sun shines on them!! So I was thinking about this in relation to [the] sermon. And I realized trolls are kind of a metaphor for the opposite of what a church built on rock stands for! Trolls are fundamentally evil and destructive and when the sun shines on them, they explode and turn into piles of rock. So I was wondering, why do I collect troll rocks (my favorite is a troll’s eyeball)? Am I collecting signs of evil? Then I thought, actually those troll rocks are a good reminder that when you shine the light on that which is evil, it can disintegrate – explode – and from those pieces –rocks – you can build something new and lovely

So I guess it’s ok to collect troll rocks!

Thank you God that you are our firm foundation and that you are also the light that shines on our world. Thank you that there is no evil that can prevail once the light of your love has been shined upon it. Amen.
